Exercising: At Home Or At The Gym?

Where do you choose to exercise? At home or at the gym? There are advantages and disadvantages to both venues. One thing is most certain, however, and that is that exercise is an essential to living a healthy, balanced life - both mentally and physically.

At The Gym

Exercising at the gym can sometimes give you the benefit of using all the equipment that can work for both cardiovascular exercising as well as weight training. Several gyms can offer classes in just about every type of high impact and low impact workout, including aerobics and yoga. Pilates are also very popular in most of the health clubs.

Additionally to the equipment, you can also relax at the health club in the saunas and in hot tubs. Many clubs have swimming pools as well; no exercise on earth is as good for you as swimming as it makes it possible to exercise all of your muscles simultaneously.

There are also several different types of gyms available and you can usually find a membership within any price range. There are also certain small gyms that just have a handful of machines and large clubs that can offer everything from wall climbing to family swimming pools.

Most health clubs have trainers or people who can assist you with machine use correctly, in order to accomplish what you want to do. This instruction is usually a free service of the health club. Gyms can definitely be considered as the ultimate way to get all of the exercise that you might require. They can also be a great means for meeting other people.

The disadvantages of the gym is that they can sometimes be costly and many people might not want to be bothered with bundling up in the cold weather in order to go to the gym. Several people will usually go for a few weeks and then start tapering off. Several people like to pay for gym memberships that they barely use. Gym memberships can be expensive as well and many health clubs make you sign a contract before joining.

Home Exercise

Exercising at home is one other way to make sure that you don't have to go out to the gym. Exercising at home can also cost you very little. You don't need a lot of fancy equipment, you can just as easily exercise using the tried and true calisthenics of yesterday. Jumping jacks can work wonders as a good cardio vascular exercise just the same as can running on the spot.

As for low impact exercises, you can just as easily do these at home as you can in the gym. Stretching, Pilates and Yoga can easily be taught through watching a videotape concerning these exercises. You will only require a small amount of room in order to be able to practice these exercises at home and you will not have any excuse not to do them.

Probably one of the best reasons for exercising at home is the fact that you won't have to worry about people watching you as you work out. Several people are self conscious about their weight and wearing their work out clothes in front of other people. This is why exercising in the privacy of your own home can sometimes be the best remedy for someone who might be worried about exercising in front of others.

The disadvantages about exercising at home are that you don't get any access to the best training equipment and will also not be able to get any exercising advice from professional trainers. You will also not be able to meet or socialize with anyone, this could be good or bad, according to your own special needs.

Several people who begin to exercise do so both at the gym and at home. They begin to enjoy this natural energy boost so much that they cannot get enough of it. Once you get well into the exercising routine, you will not want to get out of it. It can provide you with energy, stress and anxiety releif and alleviate feelings of depression. It will also make it possible to keep you in the most excellent kind of physical shape.
